Why would I want a Power f Attorney?

There are many reasons to need a Power of Attorney (POA) - some of them are:

  • Health decisions that you wish to be carried out should you not be able to make decisions for yourself
  • When you are not able to be present to sign documents that need a 'wet' signature, such as a real estate transaction
  • You are a parent leaving your minor child in care of someone in your absence
  • You want to assign a person to take care of your personal financial or business financial matters in your absence

Mobile Notary St. Louis provides Notaries at your Home | Office | Hospital | Nursing Home to make the Notary process of your Power of Attorney document easier for everyone

How do I make my POA official?

In most states, for a POA to be official, it will need to be Notarized by a Notary Public

  • A Notary will be present to witness signing of the document(s) and to verify identity of the signers
  • Signers must be aware of what they are signing, not be under duress and be able to communicate with the Notary directly at the time of signing
  • Once document(s) has been properly notarized, it is then an official document
  • Some notarized documents may need to be filled with an Attorney or court to consider the document an official record
  • It is up to the customer to complete this final process if necessary

Notaries are NOT Lawyers and do NOT offer legal advice of any type

Notaries can not provide documents or advise you on proper documents

Please consult an Attorney or proper professional

Mobile Notary St. Louis provides Notaries at your Home | Office | Hospital | Nursing Home to make the Notary process of your Power of Attorney document easier for everyone

Do I need a witness? Who can be a witness?

Witnesses aren't always required - you will have to check your particular POA to see if witnesses are necessary for your document.

  • Witnesses can NOT be mentioned in or related to anyone mentioned in the document
  • The best witnesses are a family friend, neighbor or co-worker
  • Witnesses MUST be physically present for signing and have a valid  state ID, Drivers License or Passport available- no copies or pictures accepted
  • Nurses, medical staff or administrative employees will NOT sign as witness to any type of documents that aren't 100% medical related. Do not assume that medical staff will assist because 'someone' told you they can
  • We can provide witnesses if you do not have anyone available starting at $65.00+ per witness - arrangements must be made before scheduling appointment online - please call to arrange 636-293-4493
  • Travel fee is still due if signing can't be completed due to incorrect documents, no witnesses, missing ID, etc. If notary shows up as scheduled, travel fee is due.

How the process works

  1. Once you have your Power of Attorney document(s) (durable Power of Attorney, healthcare directive Power of Attorney, general Power of Attorney, financial Power of Attorney, etc) you will need to review it to see if you need witnesses
  2. Make sure all parties that need their signature notarized have a current ID, Drivers License or Passport available for the Notary - NO copies or pictures are accepted. If no current ID is available see "Credible Witnesses" below
  3. Secure your (non-related, disinterested) witnesses and be sure they have a valid drivers license, ID, or passport as the Notary will need to see that to verify their identity **If you have questions on witnesses - See above "Do I need a witness? Who can be a witness?"
  4. Find out when - day/time your witnesses are available to be present with all parties that will sign the POA
  5. Contact Mobile Notary St Louis - it's easiest to have a Mobile Notary that will travel to your location so that everyone can meet in one place, at your home, office, nursing home, hospital, etc.
  6. Schedule an appointment with Mobile Notary St Louis
  7. Fill out all questions and information on documents PRIOR to the Notary appointment time
  8. DO NOT SIGN or DATE any pages of documents until the Notary is present, All other portions of document should be completed before the appointment to save time for all involved
  9. On appointment day -  Have document(s) ready to be signed. Make sure all parties will be present- including witnesses if needed. Make sure all signers and witnesses have valid state ID, Drivers License or Passport* present for the Notary *No copies or pictures are accepted

          10. When the Notary arrives -

  • Notary will review and record each persons Identification & signature
  • Notary will witness all parties signing the documents
  • Notary will stamp and sign the documents
  • Your document is now official and Notarized
  • If document needs to be filed with an Attorney or court to consider the document an official record - it is up to customer to complete this part of the process

** Note - if Notary shows up and documents can not be notarized for any reason, our travel fee is still due in full. Notary is on a schedule and can not wait for changes, finding witnesses, etc.

Why do I need a Notary?

A Notary Public will be present during the signing of the document to verify it was signed by the correct people and that those signers have been properly identified by verifying their Drivers License, State issued ID, or Passport.

The Notary's stamp and Notary's signature on your document makes it Notarized

Some notarized documents may need to be filed with an Attorney or court to consider the document an official record.

What if the person doesn't a valid Identification? Using "Credible Witnesses"

If a valid identification is present for one reason or another - expired, lost, not available:

The state allows a Notary to verify a person without ID by having two "credible witnesses"

Credible Witnesses must meet all the following:

  • Personally know the person that has a missing ID
  • Not be related to any person signing or anyone mentioned in the document (they can not stand to gain in any way from the documents being notarized)
  • Have a current state ID, state Drivers license or Passport available for the Notary - copies or pictures not accepted
  • Be present at the time of signing with the Notary

Frequently Asked Questions About Nursing Home Mobile Notary

What is the nursing home mobile notary service?

Mobile Notary St Louis travels directly to senior living facilities, nursing homes, and assisted living centers across the metro area. We bring our professional notary services straight to the resident's room, offering convenience, compliance, and peace of mind to seniors, families, and healthcare advocates during stressful moments.

What types of documents can be notarized at a nursing home?

We frequently handle critical estate planning, medical compliance, and legal forms. The most commonly requested documents include:

  • Financial and Medical Powers of Attorney (POA)
  • Advance Healthcare Directives and Living Wills
  • Real Estate Deeds and Closing Documents
  • Medical Consent Forms and HIPAA Waivers

Does the patient need to be fully conscious and alert to sign documents?

Yes. Under Missouri notary law, a signer must be fully aware, alert, of sound mind, and completely willing to sign the document of their own free will. Our commissioned notaries are trained to carefully assess the principal's awareness and capacity before any signatures are placed or notarized. We cannot proceed if a patient is unresponsive, unable to communicate intent, or heavily sedated.

What identification does a nursing home patient need for a notarization?

The resident must present a physical, valid, and unexpired government-issued photo ID card. This can be a driver's license, a state identification card, or a passport from any state or country. Missouri law strictly prohibits us from accepting expired IDs, photocopies, or digital photos of identification cards on a smartphone.

What if the document requires witnesses? Can you provide them?

Yes. Many essential legal documents (like Wills and Powers of Attorney) require one or two independent witnesses to sign alongside the notary. Please note: Nursing home nurses, staff members, and medical administrators are strictly prohibited by facility liability rules from signing as witnesses on non-medical legal documents. If your paperwork requires witnesses and you do not have friends or neighbors available, Mobile Notary St Louis can arrange to bring qualified independent witnesses to the appointment for an additional fee.

How quickly can a mobile notary travel to a St Louis nursing home?

We understand that timing is everything when dealing with healthcare changes or urgent medical documentation. We prioritize senior living calls and strive to provide prompt, immediate scheduling, including next-day or urgent same-day mobile appointments when available. Please contact us directly for immediate service.

What geographic areas do you cover for senior facility notarizations?

We serve nursing homes, rehabilitation clinics, and hospice facilities throughout the entire greater St Louis metropolitan area, including St Louis City, St Louis County, and St Charles County. When booking, simply provide us with the name of the facility and its neighborhood location.

Can a mobile notary help draft or create a Power of Attorney form?

No. Notaries are public officials, not licensed attorneys, and are strictly prohibited by Missouri law from offering legal advice, drafting legal documents, or telling you which forms are needed for your situation. All documents must be fully prepared and ready for signing before our mobile notary arrives at the facility.

What are the fees for a nursing home mobile notary appointment?

Our rates follow the standard Missouri statutory limit of $5 per notarized signature. Because our team travels directly to the senior care facility, a mobile travel and convenience fee is calculated based on location and timing. If you require our professional witness add-on service, that will incur an additional charge. We always provide an exact, all-inclusive quote prior to confirming your appointment.

How do I schedule a nursing home mobile notary appointment with Mobile Notary St Louis?

You can instantly book a visit by calling us directly or by using the scheduling portal on our website. To ensure a smooth appointment, please provide us with the name of the senior facility, the patient’s room number, the specific types of documents to be signed, and whether or not you will need us to bring professional witnesses

Notaries are not lawyers, and can not give legal advice. Check with an attorney, financial advisor, or document recipient if you have questions about anything other than a notary act. All rights reserved to refuse service for any reason.
